Jodhpur’s sweeper Asha Kandara will become Deputy Collector

These things are not just bookish, many people prove them to be true. Asha Kandara, who sweeps the streets of Jodhpur, is one of those people. Recently, she has secured the post of Deputy Collector by passing the Rajasthan Administrative Services Examination. Asha works as a sweeper in Jodhpur Municipality to maintain the family.

40-year-old Asha was married in the year 1997, but due to some reasons she could not last long. Her husband left her and both the children in just five years. After leaving her husband, the responsibility of both the children fell on the shoulders of Asha. However, he continued to get financial help while living with his parents. Simultaneously, she also continued to do some work and started studying again. He completed his graduation in the year 2016. After this, she got involved in the studies of RSS and also passed the preliminary examination of RSS in August 2018. Meanwhile, seeing the financial condition of the family, she made up her mind to do a job. She applied for the job of Safai Karamchari in the Municipal Corporation of Jodhpur. After passing the exam, she started working as a sweeper. While working, Asha continued her Mains studies and appeared for the exam in 2019, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the result of this exam like other things got delayed. Finally, after a long wait of three years, the results were declared in July 2021.

While working as a sweeper, Asha had to go through a lot of casteist remarks left by her husband and also faced various social humiliations. Despite all these troubles, he kept his courage. His only goal was that his children should get a good education somehow. Talking to a web portal, Asha said that “All these gave me the strength that I have to become something in my life and give a befitting reply to this society, which still discriminates among people.”

Asha was very happy to achieve this position in the face of all the struggles and obstacles of life. She says, “Though it was a tough journey and I had to endure a lot during this time, but I achieved what I worked hard for. Now I consider myself in a position from where I will be able to do something for the underprivileged and the victims of injustice.”
