Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi should be removed from the post” – Women’s Commission, said – the new Chief Minister of Punjab is a threat to women
Charanjit Singh Channi has been embroiled in a new controversy as soon as he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Punjab. Women’s Commission Chairperson Rekha Sharma has said on Monday that Charanjit Singh Channi is an accused of Me-Too. He has termed Channi a threat to women’s safety and urged Congress President Sonia Gandhi to immediately remove Channi from the post of Chief Minister.
Women’s Commission chairperson Rekha Sharma said that Channi was facing serious allegations during the Me-Too movement in 2018. The State Commission for Women had taken suo motu cognizance of the matter and protests were held demanding her removal, but nothing happened. Channi was then a minister in the Amarinder government. Making Me-Too accused as CM is a betrayal of women.
He said Channi is a threat to women’s safety. There should be an inquiry against them. He doesn’t deserve to be the chief minister. I appeal to Sonia Gandhi (to remove her from the post of Chief Minister. She expressed surprise that a party led by a woman has made Channi the CM of Punjab.
In the year 2018, a woman IAS officer had alleged that Charanjit Singh Channi had sent her obscene messages. After this, Punjab Women’s Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati had asked the state government to take action while seeking a report. After Channi became the CM, once again many people are raising this issue.
