It has been agreed to normalize relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, which has been announced by US President Donald Trump.

In a joint statement, President Trump, Israel’s Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Crown Prince Mohammed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi said they hoped “this historic breakthrough will increase peace in the Middle East.”

He said that as a result, Israel would postpone its plans to annex large parts of the West Bank.

Till now Israel had no diplomatic relations with the Arab countries of the Gulf.

However, Israel and Arab countries have similar concerns about Iran in this area, due to which informal contact between the two sides has been happening.

Unlike other Gulf countries, Israel has diplomatic contacts with two other Arab countries – Jordan and Egypt.

In response to President Trump’s announcement, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu tweeted in Hebrew and wrote: “Historical day”.

UAE ambassador to the US, Yusuf Al Otaiba, said in a statement that “this is a victory for diplomacy and the region.”

At the same time, he said, “This is an important advance in Arab-Israel relations, which will reduce tension and create new energy for positive change.”

This is only the third Israel-Arab peace agreement since Israel’s declaration of independence in 1948.

Earlier Egypt signed an agreement in 1979 and Jordan in 1994.

In the coming weeks, the delegation of Israel and UAE will meet and bilateral agreements will be signed for investment, tourism, direct flights, security, telecommunications, technology, energy, health, culture, environment and establishment of mutual embassies.
