Rare toucan bird found on Bangladesh border, price Rs 15 lakh

Acting on intelligence information on the Bangladesh border, when BSF personnel arrived, the suspects present there fled by throwing a cage. A rare toucan bird was added to the cage, which costs around Rs 15 lakh. It is a rare bird that is also the national bird of the Central American country Belize.

Acting on intelligence information on 13 August 2020, BSF jawans conducted a special search operation in the areas around the forest behind the village of Haldar Para near the international border. This village falls in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

Around seven in the morning, the soldiers saw two suspicious people hiding behind bamboo bushes in the inner part of the forest. As the soldiers tried to reach him, the suspects suddenly started running towards the Indian village. A cage was also taken with him during the escape. When the soldiers chased them, they managed to escape by taking advantage of the dense forest by throwing the cage there.

The search party then conducted a thorough search of the area around the forest in which a cage was found. Inside the cage was a pair of unusual-looking birds known as toucan birds.

The seized birds belong to the nail-billed toucan species, also known as sulfur-breasted toucan or rainbow-billed toucan. It is a colorful Latin American member of the Toucan family.

This species is found in tropical forests from southern Mexico to Colombia. In the international market, the cost of these birds is about 15 lakh rupees. Both the seized birds have been handed over to the Zoological Garden in Alipur, Kolkata.
