G-7 countries united to counter China, planned
G7 leaders looking to compete with China have adopted a plan to support low- and middle-income countries, under which the G7 countries will help them build better infrastructure.
US President Joe Biden said he wanted the US-backed Build Back Better World (B3W) plan to stand out as a high-quality alternative to a similar Chinese plan.
China’s ‘Belt and Road Project’ (BRI) has helped to improve trains, roads and ports in many countries.
But China has also been criticized for the fact that after pressing some countries into debt, it also tried to ‘rule’ them.
The G7 leaders said in a joint statement that “they will offer a values-driven, high-standards, transparent partnership.”
However, no clear information has been given about how it will be financed under this G7 scheme
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the G7 plan was not yet at a stage when details of the funding could be made public.
The US in particular has been critical of China’s so-called ‘debt diplomacy’.
The G7 includes the seven richest democracies in the world. Apart from America and Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan are named in this.
Britain is the host of this time’s G-7 summit which has organized this three-day conference at Carbys Bay Resort in UK. The conference is to conclude on Sunday evening.
US plan to compete with China
According to BBC’s North-America Editor Joan Sopel, on Saturday, US representatives discussed China’s growing dominance around the world at the G7 meeting. It was argued that the way China is spending millions of dollars in developing countries, Western countries should think about it and prepare its counter.
In this meeting, some senior officials tried their best to prove that the values of Western countries are more powerful. He argued that Chinese investment has come at a very high price in most countries of the world. China is making Xinjiang’s minority Vigar Muslims forced to work. China has hindered fair competition with its methods of investment.
