Cheaper electricity than coal power plant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 750 MW solar power project installed at Rewa in Madhya Pradesh at 11 am on Friday. Through video conferencing, PM will dedicate to the nation the largest solar energy project in Asia. For the first time after the formation of BJP government under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chauhan in MP, PM Modi is joining the state’s program, which is considered to be very important.

PM Modi has tweeted, ‘I will inaugurate the 750 MW solar project in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh through video conferencing at 11 am on July 10. This solar project gives impetus to our commitment to increase renewable energy capacity by 2022. The project consists of three solar generating units of 250–250 MW each. The project is expected to emit carbon equivalent to about 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

This solar project is also the first renewable energy project to be supplied to an institutional customer outside the state. The project is getting cheaper electricity as compared to the coal power plant. Two rupees 97 paise per unit of electricity is being sold from here. It will provide 24 percent of its total power to Delhi Metro, while the remaining 76 percent will be supplied to the state electricity distribution companies (discoms) of Madhya Pradesh. Let us know that the production of electricity has started from January 2020 in Asia’s most solar project installed on 1590 acres of Rewa. It has been set up as a joint venture of Madhya Pradesh Energy Development Corporation and Solar Energy Corporation of Government of India. Here three private companies are producing 250-250 MW of electricity. 37 thousand units of electricity are being produced daily from this project. Electricity generated from here is sent to the grid, from where electricity is sent to Madhya Pradesh and other areas.
