‘Ramnarayan Nikhara’ aka ‘Ashutosh Rana’ is a very talented actor with immense potential who was born on 10 November 1967 in Gadarwara district of Madhya Pradesh. He spent his childhood here and completed his primary education here. He was interested in acting since childhood, so he used to play the role of ‘Ravana’ in Ramlila. He received his higher education from Harisingh Gour University of Sagar. He is known by the name of ‘Jai Dada’ among his close ones.

Ashutosh Rana is married to the talented, gentlemanly, beautiful, sensitive actress, Producer-Director Renuka Shahane. Ashutosh Rana and Renuka Shahane met for the first time through Rajeshwari Sachdev on the sets of producer Hansal Mehta’s film. Ashutosh and Renuka ji’s courtship affair started and eventually their courtship culminated in a traditional marriage bond in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. Their marriage was a private ceremony with only the presence of family and close friends. They have two Sudarshan, talented sons ‘Shauryaman and Satyendra’.
Ashutosh Rana started his acting journey in 1995 by playing the role of ‘Tyagi’ in the serial ‘Swabhiman’. After ‘Swabhimaan’ he hosted TV shows like ‘Baji Kiski’, ‘Sarkar Ki Duniya’ and ‘Savdhaan India’. Acted in serials ‘Farz’, ‘Saazish’, ‘Kabhi Kabhi’, ‘Waris’. In 2010, he played the role of ‘Thakral’ in Star Plus’ popular serial ‘Kaali-Ek Agnipariksha’. His real identity came from the 1998 film ‘Dushman’, in which he played the role of a ‘psycho killer’. Then he did many films like ‘Zakhm’, ‘Ghulam’, ‘Dushman’, ‘Jaanwar’, ‘Kasoor’, ‘Raaz’, ‘Haasil’, ‘LoC Kargil’, ‘Ab Ke Baras’, ‘Gunah’. In ‘Sangharsh’ he played the role of ‘Lajjashankar Pandey’ who sacrifices innocent children. His live performance in the film was very scary, terrifying, the audience was left with goosebumps after seeing the gruesome expressions on his face. Notable among the new films are ‘Sonchiriya’, ‘Dhadak’ and ‘Mulk’.
India’s first transgender MLA Shabnam Mausi created history by winning the election from Sohagpur Vidhan Sabha of Madhya Pradesh in February 2000. Director Yogesh Bhardwaj was so impressed by her that he made a film on Shabnam Mausi’s life in 2005 in which Ashutosh Rana played the lead role of Shabnam Mausi. In the film, the director had tried to shed light on the problems of the eunuch community and told that the society which despised the eunuch, elected him as an MLA. Ashutosh Rana played the character of Shabnam Mausi in a powerful manner in the film with precise, heartwarming dialogues penned by Yogesh Bhardwaj.
Ashutosh Rana has also acted in several Marathi, Telugu, Kannada and Tamil films. Has acted in Kannada film ‘Vishnu Vijay’ with South’s superstar ‘Vishnuvardhan’. He acted in Telugu films named ‘Venky’, and ‘Bangaram’, in South he is known as ‘Jiva’. He was the theater guru ‘Sv. Satyadev Dubey has performed several plays at Prithvi Theatre. Ashutosh Rana played the role of a silent lover in the 2000 film Checkmate opposite Raveena Tandon. In 2001, he was in the lead role of an honest cop in the film ‘Underworld’. In 2002, he was playing a major positive role in the film ‘Din Police Ka’, but due to some reasons, all the three films could not be released.

In the year 2000, Zee Cine Award and Filmfare Award for Best Villain for the film ‘Sangharsh’.
