Ban on sale of gutkha, pan masala, tobacco and khaini in Delhi increased by one more year

The Delhi government has extended the ban on manufacture, storage, sale and distribution of gutkha and paan masala for another year. Food Safety Commissioner DN Singh on Wednesday issued a notification regarding the ban on these products.

The notification states that all the similar tobacco products, including gutka, pan masala, and aromatic tobacco, whether they are called by any name, are harming the health of the common people. This is also affecting the biological composition of future generations. Not only this, it also contains harmful chemicals. Then, the central government has already banned tobacco and nicotine products as anti caking agents.

In these conditions, a notification has been issued on Wednesday on the order of the Lieutenant Governor in the name of Commissioner of Food Safety. It prohibits the manufacture, storage, distribution of tobacco for one year in the National Capital Region using the powers found under Section 3 of the Food Security Act 2006. The ban will apply for a period of one year from the day of notification.
