Trains started operating on Monday from the first newly constructed Yoganagari Rishikesh railway station of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway project, costing around Rs 16,216 crore.
Lakhs of commuters will benefit from the introduction of this station. With a virtual presence, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ flagged off the Jammoothavi Express from Yoganagri Rishikesh railway station at 15.40 pm jointly with Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Premchand Agarwal and Rishikesh Mayor Anita Mamgain. On Monday, two trains – Jamootavi Express and Prayagraj Express – came from here on the first day and in the coming few days more trains will start operating from here.
On this occasion, Union Education Minister Nishank said that the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line project is one of the ambitious projects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rishikesh is the first and important stop from where the trains started operating today. He said that Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will inaugurate the newly constructed Yoganagari Rishikesh railway station in future as per his convenience. Nishank said that with the joint efforts of Railway Minister Goyal and Prime Minister Modi, the railway has grown rapidly in the whole country.
He also congratulated the passengers on trains on this occasion. Earlier, Assembly Speaker Aggarwal and Rishikesh Mayor Anita Mamgain said that today will be an unforgettable day in the history of Rishikesh. A total of 125 km of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project is under rapid progress. The project is targeted to be completed by 2024-25. Chief Minister Rawat also thanked Prime Minister Modi and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal for this project and said that the Prime Minister has a special attachment with Uttarakhand and the dream of the railways in the mountain of the people of the state is going to be realized soon.
Rawat said that the Rishikesh-Karnprayag Rail Project and the Chardham All Weather Road Project would prove to be the lifeline for the state and this would increase economic activity in the state and develop livelihood resources on a large scale. He said, “The day is not far when tourists and devotees will come by train and the local people of Uttarakhand will also be transporting their products to cities and markets by train.”
The design of the newly built Yoganagari railway station is one of the finest railway stations in India. It has three 600 meter high-level platforms, two 7.50 meter subways, 325 sqm waiting room, two lifts, two ramps and two escalators. Automatic coach washing system is also installed here. The establishment of sewage treatment plant and foulant treatment plant with quick water facility makes the station compliant with world class standards.
