The 2400-year-old mami (dead-hearted) kept here in Jaipur was rescued after much effort due to the flooding of Albert Hall due to heavy rains on 14 August in Jaipur.

This mummy is related to Akhmin in the ancient state of Panopolis, Egypt, which is said to be the Tolomike era from 322 to 39 AD, ie about two and a half thousand years ago.

According to Albert Hall’s documents, this mummy is a female member of the family named Tutu in the Egyptian Akhmin, a family of worshipers of the god named Khem.

Jaipur historian Professor RP Khangorot told that in 1883 Sawai Madho Singh (II) had organized the Industrial Art Economic and Educational Museum Exhibition in collaboration with the British Government and Indian states. This mummy was specially brought for this exhibition.

Professor Khangarot has also made this claim in his book A Dream in the Desert. However, the price purchased is not known.

Mummy was bought, gifted or brought to Jaipur under agreement – Albert Hall Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Chholak does not have any substantive document to clear this situation.

Placed mami without show case 5 times

On 14 August, due to the heavy rains in Jaipur, the basement was flooded, to save Mami from damage, the glass of the show case was pulled out. This was not the first time Mami was pulled out of the show case.

Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Chholak says that on the ground floor of Albert Hall, Mami was kept in a show case. But in April 2017 it was shifted to the basement and during that time Mami was also taken out of the case.

On the upper cover of the mummy housed in the Albert Hall, the symbol of the ancient Egyptian winged beetle (ladybug) is inscribed. It is a type of sign that indicates rebirth after death. Egyptian experts told it safe

Due to rain, there was a question of shifting it to another place in the museum, then questions were also raised about its safety.

But the museum owners say that it has been kept here quite well.

Mami is placed in a strong glass show case. It is kept in a very safe way so that the mummy is not harmed. But these days Mami is kept in the open.

The superintendent of Albert Hall, Dr. Rakesh Chholak, says that during the investigation, the upper two layers of Mami were removed in 2012 under the supervision of a specialist. But the third layer was not removed to protect its skin.

Superintendent of Albert Hall, Dr. Rakesh Chholak says that 7 mums are present in India including Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Baroda, Goa. 6 are from Egypt while the mummy kept in Goa is not very old.

He says that in 2012, a three-member team of experts from Egypt underwent a security check. During that time, two of the three security layers on Mami were removed and x-rayed. During which the whole mummy was examined.

Dr. Chholak says that after investigation by the experts from Egypt, this mummy of Jaipur was said to be the safest.
