Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia has slammed the university administration for not paying salaries to employees of 12 colleges of Delhi University.

In a statement sent to the BBC by the Education Minister’s Office, it has been said that when 56 crore rupees have been released this year, why have the teachers not been paid so far.

Sisodia has said that despite the 70% increase in the budget allocation of fully funded colleges by the Delhi government in the last five years, the failure of these colleges to pay their employees indicates corruption.

At the same time, Delhi University Teachers Association President Rajib Ray has put his side in the conversation with the BBC.

What is the matter

There are 12 such colleges under Delhi University, which run with government money. This means that these colleges have to take almost every expenditure from the government.

But for the last three months, these colleges are not able to give salary to their academic and non-academic staff.

The Delhi University Teachers Association blames the Delhi government for this disorder.

The union claims that for more than a year, the Delhi government has been irregular in releasing funds to these 12 colleges.

The colleges that get 100 percent funding from the Delhi government are –

1- Acharya Narendra Dev College

2 – Shaheed Rajguru College

3. Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Science

4. Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies

5. Deendayal Upadhyay College

6. Bhagini Nivedita College

Conditions are not serious due to non-payment of salary

Delhi University Teachers Association President Rajib Ray has told the BBC that the situation has become very serious due to this attitude of the government in the families of many teachers.

He says, “May, June, and July salaries have not been given in most of the 12 colleges. There are about 2000 people including teachers and staff. Many families are facing serious situations due to non-payment of salary. Somewhere medical expenses are becoming difficult to bear, then problems are arising due to everyday expenses. ”

“Think, how much does it cost to treat a cancer patient, and a patient has not had a medical bill reimbursed for a year. What will be the condition of the employees working on the contract… ”

But Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia, while presenting the statistics, has said that out of 243 crore allocated for the financial year 2020 -21, 56.52 crore has been released till the end of July.

Sisodia has asked why DU colleges are not able to pay the salary of April, May and June even after release of 23% of the total allocated budget.

He says, “Apart from the colleges of the University of Delhi, the Education Department of Delhi funds many other universities, but we never get to hear from them that the funds are exhausted or the salary is not paid.”

Teachers Association of Delhi has also given its feedback on the government statistics.

Says Rajib Ray, “The Delhi government has presented some statistics. According to me, Manish Sisodia ji probably does not even know. In these few years, the seventh pay commission came, EWS came in wide, some courses were approved. In such a situation, when you agree to run the course, then you also agree to its staff. In such a situation, if you increase the staff, then you will have to pay.

“EWS expanded, some additional courses were introduced. In such a situation, additional money will be given for them also. We are saying that this year we have not given as much as what was given last year. What is the reason for this?

Accusation of corruption

Manish Sisodia has said in his statement that non-payment of salary despite the 70% increase in the budget of Delhi government funded colleges in the last five years, indicates corruption.

He has said that the refusal to form a governing body and many complaints of corruption raise serious questions on the administration of Delhi University, I wrote a letter to the DU Vice Chancellor last month regarding these corruption charges and I am still waiting for his reply. Have been. “

What does the teacher’s association say on the issue of corruption

Teachers’ union has also reacted to the talk of corruption by Manish Sisodia.

Rajib Ray says that if the government feels that corruption is happening, then the government should try to stop it.

He says, “The government is raising the issue of corruption. Very good. There is no problem in this. But by taking up the empty issue, nothing will happen. It also needs a solution. If corruption is happening then catch the corrupt people. But who corrupted  Not done – Employees and teachers have not committed corruption. Neither are they saying that they have done it. So why has his salary been withheld? He himself is saying that he has not given 23 percent till now whereas by now it should have come to 40 percent. ” “We are with them against corruption. But the teacher and staff work, and if they do not get salary for three months, then they themselves are responsible for it. ”
