The British government has made several announcements to remove Chinese phone manufacturer Khwwe from the UK’s 5G mobile network.

Under this, UK mobile service providers will be prohibited from purchasing new 5G devices from Khawaiwa after this year and also have to remove their 5G kit from their network by 2027.

The UK government had earlier agreed that the Chinese company Khwwe would have a limited role in Britain’s 5G network. But now the government has changed its mind in view of the increasing security concerns about China.

What is the dream?

Khwave was introduced in 1987 by Ren Jungfei, a former military officer in Shenzen, southern China.

It initially started making communication devices for mobile phone networks and later emerged as a major company in the world employing 1,80,000 employees.

After Samsung, Khwwe is the second largest Smartphone supplier in the world with 18% market share, ahead of Apple and the rest of the companies.

Which countries are worried about the dream?

The whole debate about this company rests on whether western countries trust Khwai or are our mobile phones also under arrest of this company?

America says that through 5G equipment, China can use Khwai for espionage. It cites the military background of the company’s owner Ren.

Ren was a member of the Chinese Army People’s Liberation Army for nine years until 1983. He is also a member of the Communist Party of China.

However, Khwwe says that it has nothing to do with the company anymore. The company says, “When Ren Jungfei was young, you were required to take responsibility for any post of the Communist Party.”

The United States has banned companies from doing business with Khwave here and wants its affiliates to be removed from the 5G network. Australia and New Zealand have also taken steps like the US.

It is important for the UK to ban the UK-US trade negotiations because the US warned that not taking such a decision could threaten future security cooperation.

But now the threat of Chinese retaliation has increased, including the possible cyber attack by banning Khwai’s devices in the 5G network in the UK.

5G: What are the issues?

Most of the countries are preparing to set up an advanced 5G mobile network over 4G. Because of this, the download speed that we have today will be 10 times that which means it will change our working, talking and watching videos.

Theoretically speaking, giving control of the central technologies of these networks will give the power to spy the spy or interrupt communication in case of any dispute in future.

This is also very important because in the future self-driving cars, fridge, baby monitor and fire alarms will be connected to the Internet.

There are also concerns about them that government-backed hackers can use these tools to breach strategically important networks from the back door. For example, it can shut down the opponent’s power station.

Banning UK 5G technology on the ground by banning use of Khwave equipment in the network will have a significant impact.

Culture Minister Oliver Dowden has said that due to this 5G will be delayed by two to three years and will increase the burden of 2 billion pounds.

Is Khwave spying on us?

The US cites China’s National Intelligence Law of 2017, under which any organization is ‘required to support and cooperate in the intelligence work of the nation’, which means that China can order Khwai for any work.

At the same time, Khwave says that he has never been asked for espionage and he will ‘explicitly tell you not to do it.’

The company further says, “When it comes to the issue of cyber-security and the personal security of the consumer, we will never compromise nor will it harm any country, organization and individual.”

The UK has set up a Khwai Cyber Security Evaluation Center under the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) to oversee the company.

In March 2019, it had not found evidence of any malicious actions by the Chinese government, although it had found serious deficiencies in Khwai’s software engineering and cyber-security capability.

Announcing the ban on 14 July, Dowden said that the NCSC had ‘substantially changed its security assessment’ on Khwai’s presence in the UK’s 5G network. He said that this decision is being taken against the company after the tough steps of America, but they did not give any further information on it.

Is there any option other than Khwave for 5G?

Buyers in the US would certainly favour buying kits from American companies, including companies such as Cisco, Juniper Networks and Qualcomm.

In Europe, Sweden’s Ericsson and Finland’s Nokia 5G are manufacturers.

The Nokia company had released a statement in which it said that it had the capability and expertise to replace the equipment in the UK network with the speed that it could do at full speed.

However, the government has said that it will look at ‘many companies’ in this matter and will bring a telecom security bill.

What will happen to Khwave mobile phone?

This action will not affect Khawve’s ability to sell his Smartphone.

If you use Khwave’s phone then it is less likely that the company is giving your data to the Chinese government but it is possible. Similarly, technically the data of Google Pixel phone can be given to the US government.

In March last year, Google stopped giving Android to Khwwe. Most mobile phones in the world work on Android operating system except Apple’s iPhone. If your phone is older than the phone ban then you will keep getting Android updates but if you have a new phone then it will not happen. However, Khwwe is working on this.
