New Delhi: The e-commerce companies have been allowed by the central government to sell all kinds of goods including non-essential items like laptops and refrigerators during the third phase of lockdowns. The companies welcomed the decision, saying that it would provide relief to the people and would also help millions of small and medium enterprises and traders to start businesses again. Although this exemption has been given only in the Green and Orange zones, no rebate of any kind has been given in the Red Zone. The government has extended the lockdown to 17 May with restrictions on air travel, trains and inter-state road transport.

However, various commercial activities and movement of people have been exempted in areas with limited cases of corona virus infection (Orange Zone) and areas free of infection (Green Zone). Under the new rules, e-commerce companies in the Red Zone, an area with more infection cases, can still supply only essential items.

However, both the Green and Orange regions will be able to supply essential and non-essential items. All major cities including Delhi and Mumbai have been included in the Red Zone. Therefore, in such cities you will not get the benefit of this rebate.

Amazon India spokesperson said that we welcome the government’s decision to allow e-commerce in Orange and Green regions. Millions of small and medium businesses and merchants will now be able to resume business. The spokesman said that the company would follow the new guidelines regarding the red zone. Senior Vice President of Paytm Mall Srinivas Mothe said that the government has taken the right decision by exempting the e-commerce supply of non-essential items in the Green and Orange zones.

He said that customers were eagerly waiting for some relief in the lockdown guidelines to buy products such as air conditioners, refrigerators and even summer clothes. People are also eager to buy laptops, mobile phones, computer hardware and stationery to continue work and study from home. This step will bring great relief to the people.
