PM Modi will not go to Portugal next month to participate in India-EU summit meeting, know the reason

In view of the increasing cases of Kovid-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the India-EU Summit. This summit will now be held digitally on 8 May. Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi has given more information about this.

Given the situation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Kovid-19, he will not go to Portugal next month to participate in the India-EU Summit. Now this meeting will be done through digital medium. The Foreign Ministry said that after consultation with the leadership of the European Union and Portugal, it has been decided that this summit will be held on 8 May through digital means.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said, “Considering the situation of covid-19, after discussions with the leadership of the European Union and Portugal, it was decided to organize the India-EU Summit on May 8 through digital mode.” He has given this information on the media’s questions on this issue. The 16th India-EU Summit was scheduled to be held on May 8 in the Portuguese city of Porto. Bagchi said that the meeting of the leaders of the India-EU is being held for the first time in the EU + 27 format, which shows the shared aspiration to further deepen the strategic alliances of the two sides. The Prime Minister was also expected to travel to France while going to attend the India-EU Summit.

It is noteworthy that the European Union of 27 countries is strategically important for India. Overall, the EU was India’s largest trading partner in the year 2018. India’s bilateral trade with the European Union stood at USD 115.6 billion in the year 2018-19. Of this, exports stood at $ 57.17 billion while imports stood at $ 58.42 billion. The 15th India-EU Summit was held in July last year and Prime Minister Modi laid a work-centric agenda to further expand relations.
