What is Sankashti Chaturthi?


Sankashti Chaturthi is celebrated on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha every month according to the Hindu lunar calendar. On this day, devotees worship Lord Ganesha to seek blessings for a happy life. Also, according to Hindu mythology, on this day Lord Shiva named his son Ganesha as the greatest of all gods. According to the legend, Lord Vishnu himself worshiped Lord Ganesha on this day and considered him as the first worshipable god. For this reason, Lord Ganesha is worshiped first in any auspicious work or worship in Hinduism.

Waking up early in the morning, offer water to Lord Ganesha and worship him.
Keep fast throughout the day as it is believed that all wishes will be fulfilled.
Avoid consuming rice, wheat and pulses in any form during the day.
In the evening, worship Lord Ganesha with Durva grass, flowers, incense sticks and diyas.
