The president of the All India Ekta Manch and the Karnataka Kshatriya Sangh, Mr. Uday Singh emerged as the savior of migrant workers along with the Government of Karnataka in Bengaluru during the Corona lock-down.

Around 5 -6 thousand migrant laborers were expected to crowd the Freedom Park, Bengaluru in a quest to return to their home state. It was feared that this place, being at the heart of Bengaluru, might become a place of uncontrolled crowd, and if any commotion takes place, there could be a big challenge to maintain law and order there.

In such a situation, on the request of the Karnataka government and the local administration, Uday Singh took up the task of organizing the whole crowd and controlling them totally. All labourers gathered at Freedom Park were thirsty and hungry and social distancing was missing among them.

He first addressed workers in some dialects of Bihar including Bhojpuri and Maithili languages.

After convincing them to go to their home with peace and harmony, the local administration got them fed and took about 400 buses and took them to the Bengaluru International Exhibition Center, the largest public place in Bangalore.

Keeping in mind the social distancing there, proper arrangements were also be made for the stay of all the workers.

Arrangement for medical examination including food and bed were also there for them.

After the initiative made by Uday Singh, the Govt. too sprang into action. Paying heed to the problems of all the workers, the government got them ration materials and financial assistance of Rs 5000.

Electronic registration was done for all the people to go back to their states and from next day, the railway made preparations to send them slowly to their respective states. After this, the Ministry of Labor and Police Administration of Karnataka waived their house rent and also arranged the payment of arrears by their owners.

After meeting with the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, he asked all the industries to be employed at the earliest for their employment and normal life.

Meanwhile, special cell was started to address the problems of workers.

During this time, he got the support of the top officials of the administration. However, he had to fight with some officials as well for their rights, because the government’s zeal for the welfare of the migrants is well known. In the entire journey, he got staunchest support from general secretary, Akhil Bharteeya Akta Manch and well-known educationist Prajesh Jha.

Lackadaisical Approach

Leaders try to take care of their voters only. The industrialists want to keep their relationship with their labor only to increase their production. And the worse, even the home state of the labourers show scant interest to call them back. Due to their problems and concerns are not heard. They suffer a lot because of the prohibition of movement in Lockdown.

The Plight of the Labourers

It had become very difficult for them to spend 60 days without employment and government assistance. Uday Singh came as a savior for them, catering to their demands through all possible means. His NGO also contributed heavily and on his appeal various other NGOs also came forward for help.
