Jomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal has said that the company’s women and transgender staff will be entitled to one day off in every monthly cycle of periods. Goyal said in an email reply, shared publicly, that “there should be no shame in applying for a period leave.” You should not hesitate to write in internal groups or emails of the company that you are on period leave.

Appealing to those who received unnecessary harassment and unpleasant comments when taking leave during periods, the Jometo CEO said that women need to be supported to create a ‘collaborative culture’.

Goyal said, ‘I know that the stress associated with menstruation is very painful for many women, and if we truly want to develop a collaborative culture in Jomato, we have to support them.’

Menstrual periods or periods in India remain largely a taboo subject, in which women face many problems including hygiene and lack of awareness. The situation is even worse in rural areas, where both access and use of sanitary pads is not common.
