Chirag Paswan with PM Modi

The Pashupati Kumar Paras faction of Lok Janshakti Party announced the removal of Chirag Paswan from the post of national president on Tuesday evening.

This faction has made Suraj Bhan Singh the working national president of the party, who will conduct elections to choose a new president.

Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has accepted Hajipur MP Pashupati Kumar Paras as the leader of LJP in the House on Monday evening.

On the other hand, Chirag Paswan, the nephew of Paras, has issued an order to expel all the rebel MPs from the party in the national executive meeting of the party.

Chirag Paswan had earlier tried to present his side in this whole matter by issuing an old letter. Issuing the letter, Chirag wrote on his Twitter account, “I tried but failed to keep this party created by Papa and my family together. Party is like mother and mother should not be cheated. Democracy. In me the public is paramount. I thank the people who have faith in the party. I share an old letter.”

Chirag has been calling himself ‘Hanuman’ of Narendra Modi. But in the hour of crisis, from Prime Minister Modi to Amit Shah or any other BJP leader is not seen standing with the lamp.

In such a situation, the question arises whether BJP has chosen his uncle Pashupati Nath Paras over Chirag Paswan.

What is the background of what happened?

Whatever has happened in Bihar’s politics on Monday, its real beginning seems to be with the Bihar assembly elections.

Chirag campaigned with great aggression against Nitish Kumar during the Bihar assembly elections. During the election, rhetoric like ‘Modi se koi bair nahi, Nitish teri khair nahi’ was raised. This stand was opposed even within the party, but despite this, posters with these jumlas were seen on the streets of Bihar.

After this the election results came and Nitish Kumar’s party was out of power. At the same time, Chirag got only one assembly seat despite such an aggressive stand.

But Nitish Kumar once again came to power and became the CM. According to political observers, all that started after this, due to which Chirag was isolated in his own party.

However, top JDU leader KC Tyagi denies Nitish Kumar’s role in the split.

He says, “If Chirag had not gone out of the NDA in the election, would all this have happened, which is happening now, so he himself is responsible for the situation that has arisen today. And JDU has no role in this.”

But Amarnath Tiwari, a senior journalist who understands the politics of Bihar, does not seem to agree with this argument.

He says, “Whoever knows Nitish Kumar in Bihar knows that Nitish ji does not forget his enmity. Just two months ago, some people of LJP broke up and went to JDU. Some people had gone to RJD. The talks were going on since that time. In the midst of all this, Nitish Kumar’s silence was telling that he is thinking about Chirag Paswan inside. Meanwhile, the talk of expansion in the Union Cabinet also started. Chirag was about to stake claim on the chair left vacant by his father’s death.”

He goes on to say, “Nitish Kumar got a good opportunity to hurt LJP. And Nitish ji engaged his confidant Lallan Singh on this task. He started meeting Ram Vilas ji’s brother Pashupati Nath Paras. JDU’s Inside, even a leaf does not move without Nitish’s will. Without his direction, no leader can say a word. In such a situation, when it broke down, RCP Singh, the right hand of Nitish Kumar, gave a statement that ‘whatever you sow, he will’. Vaisa katega’. This statement shows what kind of enthusiasm is there in the party about it.”

What did BJP do?

But the question arises that what was the role of BJP in this development?

On this question, Tiwari says, “It seems that Nitish ji asked the top leadership of BJP to keep the lamp issue aside for a few days as a big incident could happen. The BJP said that it does not mean that they become ministers or any other person. All they have to do is give representation to LJP. Perhaps this is the reason why Paras is constantly saying that he has not broken the party and the party is with him. In such a situation, there are possibilities of Paras going to the cabinet.

Senior journalist Suroor Ahmed also sees the active role of Nitish Kumar in this development, but he also sees the role of BJP in this.

Suroor Ahmed, who understands the caste equation of politics in Bihar, says, “There is no doubt that Nitish ji has an active role in this. The meeting of the leaders of his party with the rebel MPs immediately after the split makes it clear. JDU leader Lallan Singh Party had reached the residence of rebel MP Veena Devi yesterday morning itself. In such a situation, Nitish ji was involved in this. But it cannot be said that this was completely Nitish Kumar’s plan.

He further says, “Because at this time Nitish Kumar is not in a position to take revenge. And it doesn’t seem to help him either. Because LJP has no MLA. There was one who was in JDU. It has already been merged. In such a situation, there is a lack of reason. In my opinion, it has happened on the plan of BJP.”

Political Legacy of Ram Vilas Paswan

Some political observers also believe that there is electoral mathematics behind this political development in Delhi.

Suroor Ahmed says, “BJP is eyeing Bihar’s Dalit vote bank. BJP wants that Paswan society should be given a leader who is easy to handle. In such a situation, BJP chose Chacha Pashupati Nath Paras instead of Chirag. Because there is a possibility that in the fight between uncle and nephew, BJP may want to grab the Dalit vote bank of Bihar, especially the community whose leader Ram Vilas Paswan used to be.”

He further says, “It should also be seen in this context that in the West Bengal elections, only the Matua community was the only one who voted for BJP outright. And now BJP is preparing for Punjab and Uttar Pradesh elections. It seems that for BJP, this split is like hitting two targets with one arrow. On one hand BJP got freedom from lamp and their ambitions and on the other hand new opportunities have also arisen in Dalit politics of Bihar. An advantage to Nitish ji It has happened that he took revenge on Chirag Paswan only for telling this story.

However, the BJP denies its role in what happened to Chirag Paswan.

Speaking with the BBC, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said, “There is nothing to say in this. We fought this election together with JDU and we are with them. Now what happens inside LJP is an internal matter of the party.
