Former India goalkeeper Bhaskar Maiti died on Wednesday in Navi Mumbai Hospital due to Cerebral Hemorrhage.

Former India goalkeeper Bhaskar Maiti died on Wednesday in Navi Mumbai Hospital due to brain haemorrhage. He was 67. Maiti is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. His family friend Shashikant Prasad told the news agency that he (Maiti) died at MGM Hospital in Vashi after brain hemorrhage at around 6 pm.

Bhaskar Maiti represented India at the 1978 Asian Games

Maiti represented India against Iraq during the Bangkok 1978 Asian Games. He played for Maharashtra in the Santosh Trophy from 1975 to 1979. Apart from this, he also played for Mafatlal Sports Club from 1974 to 1980 and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) from 1981 to 1982. After retirement, he became the coach of the RCF football team.

All India Football Federation President Praful Patel expressed grief over Maiti’s death. He said in a condolence message that it was very sad to hear the news of the death of Bhaskar Maiti. His contribution was very significant. Mahasangh general secretary Kushal Das also lamented that the talented Bhaskar Maiti was an inspiration to many. God bless his soul.
