On May 17, the British government relaxed the restrictions and allowed non-essential travel. By identifying the 12 countries on the Green List, the way was cleared for the people of England to travel quarantine-free.

A British government advisory scientist warned on Monday that Britain may be in the early stages of a third wave of the coronavirus. According to Xinhua News Agency, Professor Ravi Gupta of Cambridge University said that although the new cases are ‘comparatively low’, the Indian variant has fueled ‘extreme growth’. He gave this warning among other 3,383 cases of corona infection reported in the country.

Britain suspected of being in the third wave of corona virus

He told the BBC: “Of course the number of cases at the moment is relatively low, all the waves start with low numbers which then become explosive, so what’s important is what we’re seeing, These are signs of an early wave.” However, the increase in vaccination in the UK means this wave may take longer to arrive than the first. Gupta said that there may be a false sense of security for some time, and that is our concern. Therefore, on June 21, the plan to end the Kovid restrictions in England should be postponed.

The danger looms over the restrictions to be lifted on June 21

“If you look at the cost and benefit of being wrong, I think it’s in favor of delay, so I take that as a fundamental,” he said. According to official figures released on Monday, another 3,383 people have been found positive with Kovid-19 in Britain, increasing the total number of cases of infection to 4,487,339. There have also been other deaths due to corona virus in the country. The total number of people who died of infection in Britain is now 127,782.

These figures include only those deaths of people who died within 28 days of being confirmed positive for the first time. Ravi Gupta said that three-fourth of the cases were from the Kovid-19 variant found in India. In England, pubs, bars, restaurants were allowed to open indoors from May 17, while indoor entertainment including children’s playgrounds, museums and cinemas resumed. Traveling to the Green List countries also got exemption and on return the conditions of quarantine were also removed.

It is understood that the final decision on relaxation in the lockdown will not be taken till June 14. Experts have cautioned that the coronavirus may see an evolution in the coming years, and that current vaccines may eventually fail to protect against infection, transmission, and even disease from new variants.
