Pandit jawaharlal nehru

The first Prime Minister of the country, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, has been the longest Prime Minister till now. Pandit Nehru, who became the first Prime Minister with independence of the country on 15 August 1947, remained the Prime Minister of the country until his death in 1964. Thus, from 15 August 1947 to 27 May 1964, Nehru remained in the Prime Minister’s chair for 6,130 days and the record of longest reign is still in his name. He held the post of Prime Minister of India for 16 years 286 days.

Indira Gandhi

After Pandit Nehru, his daughter Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of the country for the longest time. Indira took over as the third Prime Minister of the country after the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri. She became the Prime Minister of the country 3 times. She was the Prime Minister of the country during her tenure. During this period, she remained PM continuously for 11 years and 59 days from 24 January 1966 to 24 March 1977. After this she became the Prime Minister for the third time in 1980 and till the assassination on 31 October 1984. In this way, she held this position for 5,829 days.

Dr. Manmohan Singh

Dr. Manmohan Singh’s number comes after Indira Gandhi, he is the third-longest-serving Prime Minister. Manmohan Singh, who was the Prime Minister of the country for 10 years from 2004 to 2014, remained in the Prime Minister’s post for 3656 days. During this, he led the UPA Government in 2 consecutive terms.

Narendra Modi

Modi’s tenure started on 26 May 2014, which continues till now. His first term ended in 2019 and the BJP returned to power, registering a record-breaking victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Vajpayee was the first non-Congress Prime Minister of the country, who remained Prime Minister for the entire 5 years. As PM, Vajpayee held this position for the first time in 1996 for 13 days. After this, in 1998, he took the oath of office for the second time and ran the government for 13 months. After this, he became the PM for the second consecutive time and for the third time in the Lok Sabha elections in 1999 and remained in the post of the PM till the defeat of the party in the 2004 general election. In this way, he remained PM for 2,268 days.
