Actor Prem Chopra honoured with Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award
The 68th Filmfare Awards have been announced. Last night, on April 27, the film personalities were honored with the Filmfare Awards at a grand ceremony held at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai. In this sequence, Hindi cinema’s successful actor Prem Chopra was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
Prem Chopra was born on 23 September 1935 in Lahore. After the partition of India, Prem Chopra’s family moved from Lahore to Shimla. Prem Chopra’s father was a government employee. It was a big family. Childhood was passing by normally. While schooling at the Sanatan Dharma School in Shimla, Prem Chopra developed a passion for watching films. He would watch the film whenever he got the opportunity.

Prem Chopra reached Mumbai with some money. Leaving Shimla, Prem Chopra had no idea how difficult the acting journey would be. Prem Chopra wandered in Mumbai for two months but did not get entry inside any studio. As a result, Prem Chopra returned to Shimla. When the father saw a frustrated Prem Chopra, he gave advice. The father said that Prem Chopra should struggle while working in Mumbai. In this way, he is likely to succeed in acting. Prem Chopra found merit in his father’s words. Prem Chopra arrives in Mumbai again.
This time Prem Chopra’s luck was good. As soon as he reached Mumbai, Prem Chopra got a job in the Circulation Department of The Times of India. Along with the job, Prem Chopra used to go to the studio to find work. One such day, while going for a job, Prem Chopra found a man in the train. The man took them to Ranjit Studio. When Prem Chopra reached Ranjit Studio, the Director of the Punjabi film said, “That’s exactly what I wanted as an actor. “That’s how Prem Chopra came into the film world.
Prem Chopra did some Punjabi films. His Punjabi film “Chaudhary Karnail Singh” was successful. During this time Prem Chopra continued to work. He used to shoot after taking leave from his job. During this time Prem Chopra met director Mehboob Khan. Mehboob Khan was very impressed with Prem Chopra. He told Prem Chopra that he would give him a role as a lead actor. But till then, he should not sign the film in any kind of haste. Well, days passed and Prem Chopra played the role of the great revolutionary Sukhdev in the film “Shaheed”. This character became immortal in the hearts of people and it gave Prem Chopra recognition.

Similarly, Prem Chopra was very scared while filming a whip beating scene in the film Dostana. He was afraid that actors Amitabh Bachchan and Shatrughan Sinha might actually get hurt by the whip. It not only shows the human side of an actor but also highlights the psychological side that even a person who looks cruel, violent, barbaric in films is afraid of something and has a sensitive heart inside him.
