Kolkata: Calling upon the people in Karnataka to vote for a party other than the BJP in the assembly polls, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she would be happy if the “decline” of the saffron camp starts from the southern state before the 2024 general elections.

“The sooner the BJP is thrown out of power”, the better it will be for the country, as it is the “worst” political party in the country, Mamata Banerjee said during an address at the TMC’s public relations campaign.

BJP’s Decline will Start from Karnataka

“Don’t vote for BJP in Karnataka assembly elections; Vote for any party of your choice… I would be happy if the BJP’s decline starts from Karnataka (before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections). The Karnataka Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on May 10. Counting of votes will take place on May 13.

Former Karnataka chief minister and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy had gone to Kolkata to meet Banerjee at her residence in March, and requested the Trinamool Congress supremo to campaign in the assembly elections. The BJP is in power in the southern state, with the Congress and the JD(S) as its primary challengers.

Banerjee also accused the saffron camp of “spreading lies” when elections are approaching. “During the Uttar Pradesh elections, they had promised two (LPG) cylinders (per house); One during Holi and the other during Diwali. In Karnataka, they promised three cylinders. If there is a competition to lie, the BJP will win the first prize. ”

The CM alleged that the BJP was “defaming” Hinduism to serve its own interests and “destroying spirituality in Hinduism”. “They are defaming The Hindu religion by pitting one community against another. ”

Hitting out at the BJP for trying to implicate opposition leaders by misusing central agencies, Banerjee said, “They behave as if they are sadhus and all opposition leaders are thieves.” He claimed that the day the BJP is voted out of power, the people of this country will know about their “organised loot” in these nine years.

Criticism over the Scuffle

He also criticised the Centre over the scuffle between Delhi Police and protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar and wondered how many central teams were sent there. “The agitating wrestlers were attacked by the police in New Delhi last night. How many central teams were sent there? THE BJP should make its stand clear. ”

Earlier in the day, Banerjee had tweeted in support of women wrestlers and said it was “extremely shameful” to hurt the honour of India’s daughters in such a manner.

The wrestlers have been staging a sit-in at Jantar Mantar since April 23. She has levelled allegations of sexual harassment against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is also a BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh. The feudal TMC boss also said that the central government is not releasing funds to West Bengal despite “performing best in MGNREGA implementation”.
