1-Mumbai Police Commissioner said, “Our crime branch has detected a racket which is linked to fake TRPs. He said that the television advertising industry estimate is between 30 to 40 thousand crores. The rate of ad Channels are decided by TRPs. If there is a small change in the TRP points, then it affects crores of rupees in the channel’s revenue.
2-Parambir Singh said, “An agency named BARC works to assess TIRP. This agency places barometers in different cities of the country to assess the TRP. There are 30,000 barometers installed throughout the decade and about Two thousand barometers are installed in Mumbai. “
3-Police Commissioner said that BARC has given the contract to install a barometer to a company named Hansa.
4- He said that during the investigation it was revealed that some X employees of Hansa who work with BARC were sharing this data from the TV channel. The houses whose data was shared were paid to run certain channels.
5-Police Commissioner told that the houses where the money was being paid were told that you should always keep a special TV channel on, whether you are in the house or not. It was also learned that a deal was made to keep the English channel on in the house of illiterate people as well.
6-Parambir Singh said that when we arrested an X employee of Hansa, it came to know that some of his companions (who used to work for Hansa) are involved in it. We arrested two people and presented them in court. We have got their custody till 9 October. We are looking for some of his colleagues. These people used to give monthly money to the households on behalf of the channel and used to ask them to run certain channels continuously. We have seized about twenty lakh rupees from the account of a person who has been caught and 8 lakh cash has been seized from his bank locker.
7- Mumbai Police Commissioner said that the three channels whose names have come up in the investigation include Republic TV, Pakt Marathi and Box Cinema.
8- Parambir Singh said that in the analytical report submitted by BARC, the name of the Republic has come out, whose TRP trends were suspected.
9-He told that the customers who were given the money, even during interrogation, admitted that they were given money to watch certain channels.
10-Police Commissioner informed that the owners of Fatk Marathi and box cinema have been arrested. People working in Republic TV, directors, promoters are suspected to be in this fraud. Investigation is going on against them.
