PAP recaptures power in Singapore, wins 83 seats in 93 seats

The opposition workers party has got only 10 seats. This party is headed by Pritam Singh of Indian origin. The Workers Party won the Sengkang seat where Ng Chi Meng of the PAP was a candidate.

People’s Action Party (PAP), the party of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Sien Loongs, has returned to power. The PAP won 83 out of 93 seats in the general election held on Friday. The opposition got just 10 seats, that too with difficulty.

Prime Minister Lee (68 years) won from his old seat Ang Mo Kio’s Group Representation Constituency (GRC). The Prime Minister’s team consisted of several prominent leaders, including Anthem Thiam Po, Daryl David, Ng Ling Ling and Nadia Ahmed Samadin. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat has also won again. His team includes the names of Maliki Usman, Jessica Tan, Cheryl Chan and Tan Kiyat who won from East Coast GRC.

The opposition workers party has got only 10 seats. This party is headed by Pritam Singh of Indian origin. The Workers Party won the Sengkang seat where Ng Chi Meng of the PAP was a candidate. Chi Meng was also a minister in the Prime Minister’s cabinet. Meng is also the Secretary General of the National Trades Union Congress.

Pritam Singh and his team retained their hold over Aljunied GRC. Dennis Tan of the same party also won the Hogang seat again. He defeated Lee Hong Chuang of PAP. In the last election of 2015, the Workers Party got 6 seats, which has increased to 10 this time.
