Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was invited to participate in the Republic Day Parade, which was also accepted by Boris. But due to the rapid spread of Corona in Britain, he cancelled his tour of India. Only after this, the Government of India sent an invitation to the President of Suriname to be the Chief Guest in the parade on 26 January, which he accepted with pleasure.

‘No more visas needed to go to Suriname’

Suriname President Chandrika Prasad Santokhi had earlier also attended Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on Saturday. In this program organized through digital medium, he said, ‘We are ready to take the first step in this direction by abolishing visa permits for travellers coming to India from Suriname.’ He said that there is also scope to increase cooperation between the two countries in the field of trade and tourism.
