India registers growth in steel production

According to the data released today by the World Steel Association, only India has registered an increase in steel production in the period from January to March 2022.

New Delhi: The Union Steel Minister, Shri Ram Chandra Prasad Singh has lauded the Indian steel industry for its unparalleled performance on the world stage and exuded confidence that this excellence will continue in the year 2022 as well. He said that this production pace will help in increasing the steel production capacity of the country to 500 million tonnes in the next 25 years of the Amrit period.

According to the data released by the World Steel Association organization on 22 April, only India has registered an increase in production in the period January to March 2022 among the world’s 10 largest steel producing countries. India produced 31.9 million tonnes during this period, registering a growth of 5.9 percent over the same period last year. The rate of growth is 4.4 per cent with production of 10.9 million tonnes in March 2022. Brazil is the only other country out of 10 countries that has registered an increase in the month of March.

The Steel Minister has met separately this week with state and private steel companies to review their capital investment, production targets and future plans. He asked to make future plans keeping in mind the country’s goal of carbon neutral, hydrogen mission and green-clean steel by 2070. The representatives of the steel industry have wholeheartedly appreciated the continuous guidance and cooperation of the leadership and officers of the Ministry of Steel.
