Despite bumper wheat production, the retail price of flour in the country is currently at a 12-year high. Within a year, the price of flour has increased by 9.15 per cent. The Department of Civil Supplies, which comes under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, released the data and said that on May 7, the average retail price of wheat flour across the country was Rs 32.78 per kg. This is an increase of 9.15 per cent over the previous year. The price was Rs 30.03 per kg in the same period last year.

Prices up 6% in just four months

According to the data, the average daily price of wheat flour across the country has been increasing continuously since the beginning of 2022. Since January, its prices have increased by 5.81 percent. In April itself, its prices had reached much higher than the average price. Then the average price per kg of flour in the country was Rs 31.

Most expensive in this state and cheapest here

The Civil Supplies Department has collected these data from 156 centers located across the country. The department said that the cheapest flour is being sold in Purulia district of West Bengal, where it is priced at Rs 22 per kg. Talking about the most expensive area, flour is being sold at Rs 59 per kg in Port Blair. If we talk about the four metro cities, then it is being sold at Rs 49 per kg in Mumbai, Rs 34 in Chennai, Rs 29 in Kolkata and Rs 27 per kg in Delhi.
