A United Nations Environment Organization says that if humans continue to kill and persecute wild creatures, then they may have to face more diseases like corona virus infection.

According to a report by the UN Environment Program and International Livestock Research Institute, environmental hazards, wild exploitation of natural resources, climate change and wild animal persecution are responsible for dangerous infections like the corona virus.

Experts of the United Nations say that diseases spread from animals and birds to humans have increased continuously in the last few years. In the language of science, such diseases are called ‘Zoonotic Disease’.

Experts have warned that if humans do not save the environment and wild creatures, then they may have to face more dangerous diseases like corona.

According to the report of the United Nations, animals are being killed for the increasing demand for protein, and the human being has to bear the brunt of it.

Millions of people die every year

Experts say that every year around 2 million people die due to different diseases caused by animals.

In the last few years, there has been an increase in human diseases caused by animals, i.e., ‘zoonotic disease’. Diseases like Ebola, Bird Flu and Sars fall into this category.

First these diseases occur in animals and birds and then they make humans their prey.

The report says that a major reason for the increase of zoonotic diseases is the person himself and his decisions.

Meat production has increased tremendously

Inger Andersen, executive director of the UN Environment Program, said that in the last 100 years, humans have suffered at least six types of dangerous infections caused by new viruses.

He said, “In the middle and low income countries, at least 2 million people die every year due to zoonotic diseases like gout disease, quadrupedal TB and rabies. Not only this, these diseases also cause no economic damage. ”

Inger Andersen said, “Meat production has increased 260% in the last 50 years. There are many communities which depend to a large extent on domesticated and wild animals. We have increased farming and exploitation of natural resources is also being done wildly. We are destroying the habitats of wild animals, killing them. “

He said that dams, irrigation facilities, factories and farms are also responsible for up to 25% of infectious diseases caused by humans.

How will it be difficult?

This report has not only enumerated the problems, but has also explained to the governments how to avoid such diseases in future.

Experts have explained in detail the ways to promote farming that reduces environmental degradation and preserve biodiversity.

Says Andersen, “Science clearly shows that if we keep on playing with the ecosystem, damaging the forests and animals, then in the coming years, diseases spreading from animals to humans will also increase.” He said that in order to prevent dangerous diseases like corona virus infection in future, human beings will have to be more concerned about protecting the environment and animals.
