National Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, that Nepal is a land of temples and monasteries. PM Modi said that the people of Nepal are also happy with the construction of a temple of Lord Ram in the city of Ayodhya in India. PM Modi said that without Nepal our Ram ji is incomplete.

Addressing the people in Lumbini, PM Modi said that India-Nepal have common faith and common culture. I know that today when a grand temple of Lord Shri Ram is being built in India, the people of Nepal are equally happy. In Janakpur I had said that “Our Ram is also incomplete without Nepal”.

Lord Buddha thought also faith

Buddha was born as Siddhartha in Lumbini, the day of Vaishakh Purnima. On this day in Bodh Gaya, he attained enlightenment and became Lord Buddha. And on this day his Mahaparinirvana took place in Kushinagar. This phase of the life journey of Lord Buddha on the same date, same Vaishakh Purnima was not a mere coincidence. Buddha is the embodiment of the collective understanding of humanity. There is also Buddha enlightenment, and there is also Buddha research. There are Buddha thoughts, and there are Buddha sacraments too. Addressing the people, PM Modi said that the place where I was born, Vadnagar in Gujarat, was a great center of Buddhist education centuries ago. Even today, ancient remains are coming out there, whose conservation work is going on.

From Sarnath, Bodh Gaya and Kushinagar in India to Lumbini in Nepal, this holy place is a symbol of our common heritage and shared values. We have to develop this heritage together and enrich it further. The opportunity that I got to visit the Mayadevi temple is also unforgettable for me. The place where Lord Buddha himself took birth, the energy there, the consciousness there, it is a different feeling.

On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Nepal at around 10:30 am on Monday. There he met his Nepalese counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba and laid the foundation stone of the India International Center for Buddhist Culture and Heritage in the Lumbini Monastery area.

The center is expected to be equipped with world-class facilities welcoming pilgrims and tourists from across the world to enjoy the essence of the spiritual aspects of Buddhism.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said on Twitter, “Taking our cultural ties forward, PM Narendra Modi and Nepalese PM Sher Bahadur Deuba laid the foundation stone of India International Center for Buddhist Culture and Heritage.” He further said that the center is being constructed on the initiative of International Buddhist Confederation, New Delhi.

The Buddhist Center will be a modern building, in line with NetZero in terms of energy, water and waste management, the foreign ministry said in a statement. The center will also have a prayer hall, meditation centre, library, exhibition hall, cafeteria, office and other facilities.

The center will be constructed by the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), New Delhi on a plot allotted to IBC by the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) under an agreement signed between IBC and LDT in March 2022.
