Jammu and Kashmir: Manoj Sinha new Lieutenant Governor

Former Union Minister Manoj Sinha has been appointed the new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

Manoj Sinha has been the Minister of State for Railways in the first term of the Modi government. But last year he lost his seat from Ghazipur.

Manoj Sinha has been given the responsibility of lieutenant governor of Jammu Kashmir in place of GC Murmu.

Murmu abruptly resigned on Wednesday. The President has accepted his resignation.

GC Murmu gave his resignation on a day when exactly one year of repeal of Article 370 of the Constitution granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir was being completed.

However, no official statement or announcement regarding his resignation was made. But this news was released on news agencies and government broadcasting services.

Murmu can be assigned a new charge at the center.

Murmu has been an IAS officer of Gujarat cadre

60-year-old former IAS officer Girish Chandra Murmu was made the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir after Governor Satyapal Malik was sent to Goa on October 29 last year.

Murmu of Gujarat cadre has been the Chief Secretary of the state during Narendra Modi as Chief Minister.

The Indian Parliament abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on 5 August last year and made it a Union Territory.

Also, Ladakh was also separated from the state and given the status of a separate union territory.

Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh officially became Union Territories from 31 October. After this, lieutenant governors were appointed at both the places.

Radha Krishna Mathur was made the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
