Election Commission banned BJP’s Santan Basu and TMC’s Sujatha Mandal’s campaign for 24 hours

The Election Commission said in an order that it had carefully observed Mandal’s reply on his notice, in which there is no proper reply on the part of ‘his derogatory statement to the Scheduled Castes community in West Bengal’.

The Election Commission on Sunday imposed a 24-hour ban on campaigning of BJP leader Sayantan Basu and Trinamool Congress leader Sujatha Mandal for controversial statements. The two leaders will not be able to participate in the election campaign from 7 pm on April 18 to 7 pm on April 19.

The Election Commission said in an order that it had carefully observed Mandal’s reply on his notice, in which there is no proper reply on the part of ‘his derogatory statement to the Scheduled Castes community in West Bengal’.

As per the order, “Now the Commission gives strict warning to Sujatha Mandal and advises them to refrain from making such statements in public speeches while the Model Code of Conduct is in effect.”

Basu was served notice for his statement that “if you kill one, we will kill you four” Lets avoid making such statements in public speeches while the model code of conduct is in effect.

The commission, along with warning both the leaders to make such statements, also imposed a 24-hour ban on their campaigning.

Ban has been imposed on CM Mamta Banerjee and Dilip Ghosh

Let us tell you that earlier, the Election Commission had taken a strict step to ban the campaigning of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for 24 hours. However, he strongly opposed this decision of the Commission and sat on a dharna for several hours in Kolkata.

After this, the Election Commission was banned for 24 hours even after West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh campaigned. In the statement, Ghosh had allegedly said that “an event like Sitalakuchi will recur in many places.” Dilip Ghosh had said, “Naughty boys got shot in Sitalkuchi. If anyone dares to take the law in their hands, the same will happen to them. ‘
