One Nation One Card Scheme: Three more states included to help migrants

Union Consumer Affairs Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has announced on 01 June 2020 that three more states have been added to the government’s ambitious One Nation One RationCard scheme from today. This includes Sikkim, Odisha and Mizoram. With this, now a total of 20 states have joined this scheme.

This scheme, which is going to be started in 20 states, will mainly benefit 67 crore poor people. Due to the One Nation One Ration Card Scheme of the Central Government, ration can be taken from any other state besides the original state.

Who will benefit from this scheme?

This scheme will benefit those ration card holders who work in other states. Ration card holders will be able to buy grain at a lower price from the government ration shops in any part of the country.

One Nation One Card Scheme implemented

From June 01, the scheme of One Nation One Card for ration card has been fully implemented in 20 states. The benefit of this scheme will be that the ration card is made in any state, it can be used in other states to buy ration. This will greatly benefit the poor. The card will be issued in two languages, local language and Hindi or English.

Ration will be given even if there is no card

According to the Finance Minister, those who do not have ration card or any card will also be given ration help. This will benefit eight crore migrant labourers. It will cost 3500 crores rupees. It will be made effective through state governments. This process will continue for the next two months.

The plan started last year

The scheme started on August 9 last year. The first four states were Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. At that time the scheme was called Ration Card Portability. After this, the central government was working on a plan to implement it in other states.

What will be the benefit of the scheme?

One people will get benefit of One Nation One Ration Card. The biggest benefit will be for migrant labourers. You can take food grains from any state at the government rate. According to the National Food Security Act, 2013, 81 crore people of the country are getting rice from ration shops through the Public Distribution System (PDS) at the rate of 3 rupees per kg and wheat at the rate of 2 rupees and one rupee per kilogram.
