Why is Russia taking interest in India-China border dispute?

According to a report by The Hindu, Russia has said that Russia has an interest in resolving the dispute between India and China soon.

The newspaper quoted Russian diplomatic sources as saying that Russia has started a campaign to reduce tensions between India and China from behind the scenes.

Russia, China and India are also to have a video dialogue on Tuesday in which India’s Foreign Minister S.K. Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will be involved.

Russia began this diplomatic initiative on June 17, when Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Margulof also spoke to India’s Ambassador to Russia D. Bala Venkatesh Verma on the Line of Perfect Control between India and China, discussing regional security.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has not given more information about the meeting with the Ambassador of India, but The Hindu has quoted sources that Russia is interested in the global situation due to reduced tension between India and China.

The diplomat told the newspaper, “Good relations between China and India are at the heart of the rise of Eurasia and a world order in which no single superpower is dominated.”

Indian Army vehicle headed to Leh

Indian troops were released after three days of talks between Leh-based 3rd Infantry Division commander Abhijit Bapat and a Chinese counterpart officer. According to the newspaper, two major and two captains were also included in the captured soldiers.
