In 2004, his parents settled in Virangam, as there were better educational opportunities for their children. Hardik did his studies from class VI to XI from Divya Jyot School in Virangam, after which he passed the examination of Baharvi from KB Shah Vinay Mandir. Then Patel joined Sahajanand College and took B.Com degree from Ahmedabad itself. While studying in college, he started doing public service at Viramgam bus stand, here he contested the election of general secretary among college students and he was also elected unopposed, so it can be assumed that this is the beginning of Hardik’s political career. had happened.

In 2013, after 2 attempts, he completed his studies with 50% marks. According to the report of Times of India, Patel has done B.Com with 49.6%, although Hardik Patel was weak in studies, but despite being average in studies, Hardik made a lot of headlines in the media by shaking the Gujarat government.

Hardik’s Patidar struggle begins

On 31 October 2012, he became a part of a group of youth of his society. With his ability and dedication, he became the President of Virangam Unit within a month. And during this time he understood the condition of Patel society in the state, he saw that

Patels have to struggle so much for jobs in government and private sector. And Patel farmers also have to give their land to the government due to urbanization and industrialization. He also saw that the Patidar community had to flee from their traditional diamond business. So he decided to work for his society.

Although he was removed from the organization in 2015 due to a dispute with Lalji Patel, his struggle for the society not only continued, but also extended far ahead.

The formation of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS)

 In 2015, when Hardik Patel’s sister did not get a government scholarship, while one of her friends got that scholarship from OBC reservation even on low marks, Patel thought of raising her voice against it. He realized that this reservation policy is giving benefits to everyone except the Patidar society, so he formed the Patidar Anamat Andolan Committee. Then he had clearly said that this is a non-political organization whose sole purpose is to get the reservation of OBCs.

Patel did his first rally on 6 July 2015 in Visnagar Gujarat, whose invitation letter he had forwarded only through a message on social media, and a large number of people had gathered, after this Hardik held rallies all over Gujarat. And because of his speeches, supporters started increasing.

In this way, it can be said that Hardik was the main face of the Patidar struggle in Gujarat in 2015, but this struggle was quite violent, causing a lot of damage in many districts of Gujarat. During this, an FIR was lodged in Visnagar, a district of Mehsana. In which Hardik was said to be responsible for the violence that spread after the rally of Patidar society, at that time the MLA’s office and the car parked there were also burnt.

 2015 Hardik Patel was arrested that evening by the Ahmedabad Police after he started a hunger strike, he was charged under Section 151 of the IPC. His arrest sparked violence in the entire state, the state government had to impose curfew and even the help of the Indian Army had to be taken. Then in the same year he addressed the people of this society in other states as well and after this rally he disappeared and when he returned, he claimed that some people had forcefully held him.

On 9 September 2015, he formed the Patel Nav Nirman Sena, the sole purpose of this organization was to include Patidars, Kurmis and Gujjars in OBC and to get them benefits in government jobs.

In Surat, he was accused of serious sedition in which he had inspired the Patidars to kill the policemen.

He got bail on 15 July 2016 and ordered to stay out of state for the next 6 months and out of Mehsana for the next 9 months.

What is Patidar struggle?

 According to the 1931 Caste Census, there were only 15% Patels in the state, but since 1960 this community has increased its political and economic powers to a great extent, due to which their demand for reservation was a matter of surprise to anyone.

Till 1970, the Patidar community had a lot of influence in Gujarat, they supported the Congress, but later with the changing times, the Congress formed the Kham (KHAM) consisting of Kshatriyas, Harijans, Adivasis and Muslims, bypassing the Patels, which started in the 1980s. ruled over Gujarat.

In 1981 and 1985, the Patel community had started the Anti-Reservation Movement, whose target was Dalits and OBCs. After leaving Congress, he started supporting BJP and in the 1990s he became the most important vote bank, for which BJP had given him 40 out of 120 seats and till the time of Hardik Patel’s movement, Anandiben Patel was also the Chief Minister. Despite all this, the reason behind this movement was the backwardness of the society in the field of education.

And the dedication towards education can be understood from the fact that Patidars educate their children even after taking loans, selling their land. There are about 3000 Patidar families in Dharmaraj district, whose total population is 11,333, all of them are NRIs who live in Britain. , United States, New Zealand, Canada and Australia. In this way there are 13 banks in this village in which these NRI Patels have 1 thousand crore rupees. But despite having so much money and land, the main reason for the struggle of this society is that they do not get equal rights in education as other classes.

In 2015, the state government’s recruitment drive for permanent jobs was seen as a catalyst that garnered huge support for the Patidar Annamat Andolan Samiti.

However the state government organized mega job fairs at the district level and also released data to show that it has given employment to 13 lakh people through its employment bureau so far. But both he and OBC leader Alpesh Thakur have called these official figures false and claimed that there are about 50-60 lakh unemployed people in Gujarat.

Like other un-reserved sections of the country, the children of this society, despite their consistent performance in studies, are not getting a suitable place, have been the main reason for the fury in the society. For this reason, this struggle was started which turned into violence and during this many other youth leaders like Hardik Patel also came forward. The Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) of the Patidar society had organized rallies in many small and big cities so that the government of Gujarat could be toppled, and from this movement, Hardik Patel had drawn the attention of the whole country towards the Patidar struggle.

Political stint of Hardik Patel

Although he started his political career with the Patidar struggle, but in the state elections, he decided to run the campaign of Shiv Sena in Gujarat. However, he later left the Shiv Sena and started campaigning for the Congress in the state, and eventually he came into the mainstream of politics.

The internal feud and controversies

Hardik Patel’s close friends Chirag Patel and Ketan Patel had accused him of misusing the funds of Patidar Samaj and also said that he holds secret meetings with Congress President and Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

Finally, in November 2017, his sex tape shocked the media and his supporters, although Patel claimed that it was a dirty political game of the BJP, but it had tarnished his image.

Crime Conviction

On 25 July 2018, he and two of his accomplices were declared guilty for inciting riots and causing damage to property, in which all three were fined Rs 50,000 and sentenced to 2 years in prison, although they were soon released from jail.

Hardik Patel still organizes fasting, dharna and many rallies under the struggle of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti. In this sequence, he fasted for 19 days from 25 August to 12 September 2018 with the demand of farmers’ debt relief, reservation and release of Patidar Andolan Samiti’s convener and then broke this fast without any decision, during which Hardik’s Lost 20 kg of weight.

He has struggled a lot for the Patidar community to get the benefits of education and reservation, so that all round development of their society can take place.

At the time of the first movement, 22-year-old Hardik had claimed that the children of Patel community are unable to take admission in medicine even after bringing 90 percent, whereas the OBC students can take admission in medical studies only at 44 percent, But the record of Hardik’s own results had become the subject of much controversy at that time. His mark sheet and academic record had also come to the fore in the media when he had talked about the children of Patidar society being deprived in the field of education despite being smart. In fact, it was alleged on him that Hardik, who was weak in studies, decided to join politics and he found it easier to move ahead while leading the Patidar society, but his problem increased a bit on the issue of his studies, although the disclosure of this There was no big result against him, and the opponents got only disappointment.

He had also demanded Rs 35 lakh for the people who were injured in the violence in Gujarat during the agitation at that time. Around 9 people died in the violence that took place in Hardik’s rally.

Hardik has been embroiled in many controversies since the time of Patidar struggle, but in today’s politics he is a big face for the opposition parties at the national level, due to which sometimes hunger-strike, sometimes due to videotape or any other reason. In 2015, Hardik Patel was jailed for 2 years for riots, but despite being a declared rioter in this way, he also calls himself a social and political activist.
