New Delhi: Under the chairmanship of Environment Minister Gopal Rai, a round table conference with different technology providers was organized on the subject of urban farming at the Delhi Secretariat today. Various agricultural technologies used for urban farming were discussed during this conference. Along with increasing the green cover in Delhi through urban farming, employment will also increase. Whose nodal agency Directorate of Horticulture has been made.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the level of pollution in Delhi increases significantly during the winter season. The cultivable land in Delhi is continuously decreasing and the number of concrete buildings is increasing. Therefore, the possibility of shortage of land in Delhi is increasing in the coming times and in view of this, the Delhi government has started the plan of urban farming. The purpose of this plan is to encourage people to produce vegetables and fruits of their own use in the roofs, balconies and verandahs of their homes. This will not only enable people to get pure fruits and vegetables grown by them, but will also increase the green area of Delhi.
Discussion about models related to new urban farming
Giving information about the Round Table Conference, Gopal Rai said that on the topic of Urban Farming included in the 14 points of the Summer Action Plan launched in Delhi, today in Delhi Secretariat related to new Urban Farming with various companies / technology providers. Models were discussed. Various companies / technology providers from all corners of the country participated in this round table conference. These include names like Flora Consultant, Harwell Agro, Bhumika Organics, EasyGrow, MR Farms, Edible Roots, RS Polymer, So Good. All these companies / technology providers are working in various sectors related to urban agriculture. In which mainly working in areas like Hydroponics, Greenhouse Farming, Kitchen Garden, Farmatas, Aeroponics, Revoponics, Aquaculture.

What is Urban Farming?
Under Urban Farming, people can grow fruits, vegetables and plants on the roofs of their house if sufficient sunlight is available. Urban farming will help people avoid pesticides and harmful chemicals in the food products that they consume on a day to day basis. Along with this, green cover will also get a boost in the city. The Department of Horticulture, Government of Delhi will act as the nodal department for this initiative.
