Sources say that many senior leaders including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Mukul Wasnik, Randeep Surjewala, Ajay Maken and Rajiv Shukla are pinning hopes for the Rajya Sabha. The term of Rajya Sabha of Chidambaram (Maharashtra), Ramesh (Karnataka), Ambika Soni (Punjab), Vivek Tankha (Madhya Pradesh), Pradeep Tamta (Uttarakhand), Kapil Sibal (Uttar Pradesh) and Chhaya Verma (Chhattisgarh) is coming to an end. Sibal on Wednesday also filed his nomination from Uttar Pradesh as an independent candidate for the Rajya Sabha with the support of the Samajwadi Party. He says that he had resigned from the Congress on 16 May.

According to the current math, Congress can get three seats in Rajasthan, two from Chhattisgarh, one seat each in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. If the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu and JMM in Jharkhand gives one seat each, then the Congress can get two more seats.

Chidambaram hopes to reach Rajya Sabha from his home state Tamil Nadu

Sources say that Chidambaram is hoping to reach the Rajya Sabha from his home state Tamil Nadu. He has also met DMK leader and Chief Minister MK Stalin. However, it is also discussed that Rahul Gandhi’s team is pushing Congress’s head of data analysis department Praveen Chakraborty to be sent to Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu. If Ramesh’s candidature from Karnataka is approved, then this will be his fourth term in the Rajya Sabha. By the way, Surjewala is also being seen as a candidate for Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.
