The cabinet today approved the purchase of 83 light combat aircraft Tejas. The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. These aircraft will be manufactured by HAL and other private sector companies under the Make in India campaign. This whole deal is worth 48 thousand crores.

What is the specialty of the deal?
This is the purchase of the first fighter aircraft in the indigenous product procurement scheme. It is also the largest purchase of indigenous defense equipment. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said after the decision that this deal of 48 thousand crore rupees will prove to be an important change in making the Indian defense sector self-reliant. Also, LCA Tejas will be an important part of the Indian Air Force’s fleet in the coming times.
What is the specialty of Tejas?
The Mark-1 is a fighter plane of the A4 Plus generation. That is, more modern technology has been used in it than the fourth generation fighter plane. Equipped with modern radar systems, Beyond Visual Range missile systems, electronic warfare, in-air refueling capability, the fighter is much lighter. Due to its low weight, the jet is considered quite agile. With the help of this deal, the Indian Air Force will also be able to deal with the lack of fighter plane. LCA is currently deployed close to the border of Pakistan.
