Why not medical insurance for mental health?

At a time when the lockdown caused by the corona virus and the prevalence of depression in people is being talked about in the current circumstances, the Indian Supreme Court has asked the Center and Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) not to provide mental health under medical insurance.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court questioned the IRDA and the Center as to why insurance companies do not keep the expenses of treating mental health under medical insurance cover.

The issue of mental health is once again in discussion after the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. It is feared that actor Sushant Singh Rajput was in depression for a long time and that is why he committed suicide.

During the hearing on a petition, Justice Nariman, Justice Naveen Sinha and also R Gavai have issued a notice to the Center and Irda asking them to clarify in this regard.
