Taipai, Jan 4: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacture Co (TSMC) will reportedly manufacture Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. As per a GizmoChina report, the chipset is expected to be sourced from both Samsung and TSMC in order to reduce the manufacturing cost.

However, TSMC is likely to manufacture most of the chipsets as its 3nm process has an 80 percent yield rate.

According to experts specializing in semiconductor studies, TSMC’s 3nm process node has a yield rate of around 60-70 percent and in some cases even around 80 percent.

“If the data provided by the report is anything to go by, both Apple and Qualcomm will have no problems shipping their next-generation chipsets, the A17 Bionic and the Snapdragon 8th Gen 3,” the report said.

Before working with US startup Silicon Frontline Technology, Samsung had a return rate of around 20 per cent.

People familiar with Samsung’s plans claim that the company’s wafer yield is just 10 percent.

This is the reason why most of the orders for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipsets are expected to be fulfilled by TSMC.
