Delhi minister Satyendar Jain arrested in money laundering case sent to ED custody till June 9
The ED on Monday arrested Satyendra Jain in a money laundering case. After this, the Health Minister was presented in the court on Tuesday. ED had sought 14 days custody of Jain, but the court has sent him to the agency’s custody till June 9.
57-year-old Jain is the Minister of Health, Industry, Power, Home, Urban Development and Water in the Delhi government.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, arrested in a money laundering case, has been sent to Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till June 9. On Monday, May 30, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Satyendra Jain in a money laundering case. After this, the Health Minister was presented in the court on Tuesday. The ED had sought 14-day custody of Jain, but the court has sent him to custody till June 9.
Officials said the health minister has been arrested under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Jain, 57, is the Minister of Health, Industry, Power, Home, Urban Development and Water in the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government.
The agency had said last month that assets worth Rs 4.81 crore of Jain’s family and companies related to them have been provisionally attached as part of the money laundering probe against them. In the year 2018, the ED had questioned Aam Aadmi Party leader Jain in this case. ED sources said that Satyendar Jain was a director of three of the four companies that are accused of money laundering.
Reacting sharply to the arrest, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that Jain has been arrested in an eight-year-old fake case. Sisodia claimed that Jain was arrested because he is in-charge of the Aam Aadmi Party for the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and the BJP fears defeat in the elections.
In a tweet made in Hindi, Sisodia said, “A fake case is being run against Satyendra Jain for eight years. Till now ED has summoned him several times. In between, the ED even stopped calling him for several years, as he did not get anything. Now started again, because Satyendar Jain is the election in-charge of Himachal.
The Deputy CM further said, “BJP is losing badly in Himachal. That is why Satyendra Jain has been arrested today so that he cannot go to Himachal. He will be released soon as he has been arrested in a fake case.”
