Reading habit one of the most effective tools for self development: President Murmu

President Draupadi Murmu has stressed on the importance of reading, saying that the habit of reading is one of the most effective means of self-development.

Addressing the students and faculty members of Keshav Memorial Educational Society here at a function organized as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Murmu said it is a skill that will serve the students throughout their life.

She said that this is the age of internet and social media when attention span is getting shorter and communication between characters is limited. He urged the students to read more to improve their understanding and broaden their outlook.

The President said that education is the foundation on which a nation is built. It is the key to unlocking the full potential of each individual.

She said, “I am happy to note that the activities of Keshav Memorial Educational Society have grown manifold – from a small school in 1940 to a major educational center with nine different colleges, with over 11,000 students enrolled.

Murmu said that this increase is a tribute to the ideals of Justice Keshav Rao Koratkar, in whose memory the society has been established.

She said that the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Hyderabad are being organized as part of the ‘Amrit Mahotsav of Independence’. He said that it is of great importance for the people of this region and the entire country.

She paid tributes to the brave leaders who fought for the liberation of Hyderabad including Ramji Gond, Turrebaz Khan, Komaram Bheem, Survaram Pratap Reddy and Shoybulla Khan, saying that their value and sacrifice will always be remembered and respected.

The President said, “As we celebrate the historic achievement of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, it is important for us to remember that our independence is not just about freedom from oppressive rulers of the past.

She added that it is also about ensuring a bright future through well-thought-out steps taken today. As we move into the future, it is up to the youth of India to ensure that we build on the foundation laid by our forefathers. Do it and take your nation to new heights.

This means working hard and striving for excellence in everything we do, Murmu said, as well as being responsible and committed citizens who are willing to contribute for the betterment of our society.

The President said this means upholding the values and ideals of our Constitution and working towards a more inclusive and just society. At the same time, it is also about fighting climate change and preserving the planet for generations to come.

She also inaugurated a photo exhibition on ‘Hyderabad Liberation Movement’ showcasing the contribution of regional freedom fighters.
