Exclusive: Gita Press has published 72 crore books, these books have been published in crores

So far, more than 72 crore books have been published by Gita Press, famous for religious books across the world. The maximum number of these books is 15 crore 60 lakhs of Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta. Apart from this, the number of Ramcharit Manas, Puranas, Hanuman Chalisa, Durga Saptashati, Sundarkand is also in crores.

Around the year 1921, the Govind Bhawan Trust was established in Kolkata by Jaydayal Goyandka. Under this trust, he used to get the Gita published from there. The press had to revise several times to ensure that the book did not contain any errors. One day the press owner said that if you want to get such a pure Gita published, then put up your press. Goyandka chose Gorakhpur for this task. In 1923, a room was taken in Urdu market for ten rupees a month and from there the publication of Gita started. Gradually Gita Press was created and due to this Gorakhpur got a different identity in the whole world.

Books are published in 15 languages

Lalmani Tiwari, Product Management, Gita Press said that Gita Press publishes books in 15 languages. These include Hindi, Sanskrit, Bangla, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Assamese, Oriya, Urdu, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, English, Nepal languages.

These books have been published in crores

• Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta – 15 crore 58 lakh

• Ramcharit Masan and Tulsi literature – 11 crore 39 lakh

• Puranas, Upanishads etc. texts – two crore 61 lakhs

• Books for women and children – 11 crore six lakh

There are many pilgrimages at the main gate of Gita Press

At the main gate of Gita Press, many pilgrimages are seen simultaneously. There is no other door in the world in which so many pilgrimages can be seen simultaneously. This gate looks unique from all four directions. The main entrance of Gita Press comprises of places of worship of Hindu as well as Buddhist, Jain and Sikh religions. Those who come to Gita Press do not forget to get their heads bowed in front of its main gate.

Special is the Leela Chitra Mandir of Gita Press

There is no temple like the Leelachitra temple located in Gita Press anywhere in the world. Here 18 chapters of Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta are written on the walls. There are more than 700 images of deities made by BK Mitra, Jagannath and Bhagwandas. Seeing their beauty, the mind becomes happy. The entrance of Leela Chitra Mandir and Gita Press was inaugurated by the then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 29 April 1955.

This is how Kalyan started, 16.50 lakh copies have been printed

Lalmani Tiwari, Product Manager of Gita Press, told that in the eighth session of Marwari Agrawal Sabha held in Delhi in April 1926, Ghanshyamdas Birla advised Bhaiji to bring out a magazine based on his ideas and principles. On 22 April 1926, with the consent of the founder of GitaPress, Sethji Jaydayal Goyandka, the name of the magazine was decided as Kalyan. In the same year, under the editorship of Bhaiji Hanuman Prasad Poddar, the first ordinary issue of Kalyan was published from Mumbai. In the second year, the first special issue of Kalyan Bhagwannamank was published from Gorakhpur. Since then Kalyan is being published by Gita Press. Till now more than 16 crore 50 lakh copies of Kalyan have been published from GitaPress which is delivered every month all over the world.

Lalmani Tiwari, Product Manager, Geeta Press said that Geeta Press was established to deliver Geeta from door to door in pure and simple language at low prices. With the same objective, even today, by publishing Gita as well as other religious books from Gita Press, it is providing religious books to the people at less cost than the cost.
