WhatsApp Ban: Meta-owned chatting platform WhatsApp said on Wednesday that it has banned more than 16.6 lakh bad accounts in India in the month of April following the new IT Rules 2021. The company had received a total of 844 complaints across the country in April, out of which action was taken on 123 accounts. WhatsApp had banned 18 lakh such accounts in March last month as well. The company had received a total of 597 complaints across the country in March, out of which action was taken on 74 accounts.
A WhatsApp spokesperson said that the company in its user safety report also gives information about the details of user complaints and the action taken by WhatsApp on it. Other preventive actions of WhatsApp are also included in this report. In its latest report, the company said that it has banned more than 1.6 million accounts in the month of April.
Why the action?
WhatsApp says that according to the highlights given in the data, 1.6 million accounts of Indian users have been banned from April 1 to April 30. Because it has been seen in these accounts that they are spreading fake data to the people, due to which many people are facing problems ranging from cheating. Along with this, many people are also accused of misusing the platform.

“Over the years, we have continuously invested in artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technology, data scientists and experts and processes to keep our users safe on our platform,” the company said.
Let us tell you that in May 2021, the Government of India has brought a new IT rule to regulate social media companies. Because of this new rule, large digital and social media platforms with more than 5 million users are required to publish their monthly compliance reports every month.
