Beijing: Ahead of the Quad conference, China has targeted America-Japan. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi accused Washington and Tokyo of taking “negative measures” against Beijing ahead of next week’s meeting of leaders of the US, Japan, Australia and India in Tokyo. According to China’s Foreign Ministry, Wang told Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi in a video call, “What gets noticed is that even before the American leader left for the meeting, the so-called Japan-US relationship.” Anti-China rhetoric is already taking shape.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will host other quad leaders – US President Joe Biden, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leader who won the weekend elections in Australia. Biden will travel to South Korea on his foreign trip from May 19 to 24 and will meet with new President Eun Suk Yeol.

He will then travel to Tokyo where he will hold bilateral meetings with other leaders and reiterate America’s commitment to the Indo-Pacific region. China sees the Quad, a grouping of the above four countries, as an attempt to stifle its economic growth, while Biden has attempted to strengthen ties with other democracies to control an authoritarian global superpower.
