Importance of books in human life

Spread the love

Abraham Lincoln said that “Books serve to tell a man that his original ideas are not so new after all.”

Really going through books is like going through the best experiences in the world. There is hardly any greater pleasure in this world than reading books. That’s why books are called best friends. Nirmal Verma also rightly says,

“Books do not reduce the sorrow of the mind, the fear of the heart or the hankering of lack, they just save everyone’s eyes and secretly put a pillow under the aching head.”

Books accompany us as our best guides in different phases of life. Books not only give us information but also introduce us to the movies of our past.

Books are the best companions of our life. They are available to us whenever we need them. Books help us understand the world around us, decide between right and wrong. They also come into our lives as our role models, guides or all time teachers. Reading books brings a qualitative change in our personality.

They help us to focus on our goals and are also helpful in achieving our goals on time. Many of us have the habit of reading books in our free time or before sleeping as reading also helps in overcoming unwanted stress. It takes us to a different world which we can call the world of peace. Unlike people, books never ask for anything in return, but help us to increase our knowledge and creativity.

Importance of books for students

Student life is a unique story of struggle and during this struggle books are the true companions. Every student must definitely inculcate the habit of reading books. Books are not only companions of competitive life but they guide us at every stage of life. As students are the developing phase of life, they also need to be well guided by their parents, teachers and elders. Along with this books teach the art of taking decisions in life. After all, our life is the result of our decisions. That’s why books are our co-travellers.

The best way to guide students is to advise them to make friends with books. There are many books containing biographies of some great persons. These books can help the students to get inspired from the lives of the people from whom they get influenced in their life, like Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s experiments of truth, from which we can learn truth, non-violence and discipline in life. The honest biographies from around the world impressed the students the most.

Importance Of Books In Students Life

Reading enhances concentration which is most needed in student life. Reading for a few hours daily proves helpful in building vocabulary as well as language skills. Books help students to gain new information, ideas and facts about the world. By reading books students become intelligent and also get good marks in examinations. Books also inspire the students to be a good hearted person. Reading good books related to ethics and values enriches the students with good qualities and thus they grow up to be good and responsible citizens of the society.

Why is reading a book better than watching a movie?

Watching movies is a great way to entertain yourself. Movies are usually two to three hours long. Movies serve us with morals as well as education and entertainment. I remember during his lecture at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Prof. Anand Pradhan had said that while reading a book, all our senses remain active. While reading, we automatically go into the imaginary world. Pictures start forming in our mind. It also enhances our memory power. This is also absolutely true which explains the difference between the movie and the book. Reading a book cannot be completed in a day. It is continued for several days according to the time given by us for reading. Reading story book or novel gives us a great curiosity day by day when we complete different chapters. We get lost in the fantasy world as if the story is actually happening. Reading books gives us more accurate information than watching movies. It also helps us to concentrate and increase our power to concentrate. Along with all this, it also enhances our imagination and creativity.

Importance of technology and books

These days the use of internet, mobile phones and computers has become very common. Students consider these techniques as a good alternative to study but these techniques can never eliminate the importance of books. When we read books, we get a lot of new information but there are also many unsolved things. To answer these questions, we will need to do more studies. This increases the ability of students to read and discover. It is a good exercise for our mind and also the best way to sharpen our mind.

If we talk about the Internet, it does not give us such an advantage because all the information is already available there. Thus it can be said that it erodes our efficacy and potential. Technology also requires the use of electrical power but not so with books. Books just need to be opened and read. They are available to us at any time, but the Internet requires data and energy to operate. So it can be said that internet is a good medium of learning but it can never be preferred over reading books.

Effect of eBooks and the Internet

People find it easy to access information by using the internet and downloading e-books. According to me reading eBooks is not as easy as reading books. It requires constant use of a smartphone or computer wherever it is downloaded. These devices can be powered only by charging and internet connection. They will not work when discharged. This condition does not apply to reading books manually. We can read a book any time and it doesn’t cost anything, and most importantly feel the pleasure of touching books that e-books can never give.

Even today a serious reader prefers a hard copy book rather than e-books with virtual characters.

In conclusion, we can say that there is no better option than study for the development of human personality. That’s why books are man’s best friend who always not only introduces him to the ups and downs of life layer by layer but also supports man like a friend in every difficult time.
